Read-In Chain part of Black History Month at
PCC The read-in has participation by more than 1 million readers of all ethnicities from 49 states, the West Indies and African countries, according to a press release. The 16th annual African American literature read-in chain will arrive at the PCC on Monday, Feb. 7, from 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. in the Student Center in Building EE. The event, sponsored by the LBCC-PCC Black history month consortium and the PCC Library, is free and open to the public. The highlight of the read-in will be an appearance by Ruth Graham Siegrist, noted storyteller and presenter of African American literature. A former reading education professor at Cal State Fullerton, Siegrist is the daughter of the late author Lorenz B. Graham and engaged in reviving his work. She will read from her father’s books. “Lorenz Graham retells the stories of Jonah, Daniel and Ruth in the lyrical West-African vernacular that highlights the simplicity and humanity of these Bible tales,” Siegrist said. Other readers participating include LBCC students, employees and invited guests. Selections for reading, authored by African Americans, will include poetry, children’s books and passages from prose works. People interested in the event may contact the PCC Library at 938-3129 or visit the Building GG for more information. | |
