Ruth Graham Siegrist |
Lorenz Graham Book Event, April
27th Ruth Graham
Siegrist (the daughter of children's book author
Lorenz Graham) will speak about her father and his
authorship of children's books on Wednesday, April 27 at 10 a.m. in
the Univesity of Minnesota west bank Givens Suite, Andersen Library
room 120.
Graham's books and manuscripts in the Kerlan Collection,
including new editions, will be on display, too. Ashley Bryan
illustrated the new edition of How God Fix Jonah with a
forward by W. E. B. Du Bois (Boyds Mills Press, 2000).
The “Town” series books show African-Americans as fully realized
people, and presents positive images of the 'black' family. Lorenz
Graham tried to promote understanding and tolerance among the races,
and his books have been widely praised for their belief in an
ultimate resolution of racial conflicts. Graham died on September
11, 1989. Download Siegrist

Kerlan Award, May 21st Mark your calendar! On Saturday morning, May 21st,
illustrator Ted Rand will be honored as the
recipient of the 2005 Kerlan Award at a ceremony in Andersen
Library. The award is presented annually "in recognition of singular

wife Gloria. The Kerlan Collection holds nearly all of Rand's
vividly illustrated books, as well as original art for many
titles, including The Cabin Key, Goodnight Hattie, and
Ice Palace. The Kerlan looks forward to the release of
Rand's newest book, The Last Catamount, written by Natalie
Kinsey-Warnock. The spring issue of the Kerlan Collection
Newsletter and the Kerlan web site will provide more information
